Cremer was founded in Paris around 1920 by André Cremer and later run by his son William. Through the 1950s Cremer spotlights lit the great Parisian revues as well as film and television productions. The company closed in 1977, when quartz-halogen projectors replaced the older Fresnel designs, but its fixtures are still sought after by collectors and set designers. The barndoors, hinged flaps that shaped the beam on stage, have often gone missing over the decades, which makes this one an uncommon find. The olive-green tripod was issued to the German Bundeswehr for precision field instruments.

The restoration

We rewired the spotlight with a new E27 fitting, switch, plug and about 3 metres of cable. The rear access door had been lost, so we had a replacement 3D-printed to match.
