This is one of those wagons, from the 1920s, now a coffee table with a solid oak top.

At a glance

Manufacturer

Decauville

Origin

France

Produced

1920s

Original use

Mine wagon on narrow-gauge rails

Construction

Original riveted cast-iron chassis, steel axles, iron wheels

Finish

Satin black; solid oak top in Castle Brown Monocoat

Dimensions

L 180 × W 90 × H 50 cm

Weight

Approx. 150–200 kg

Delivery

On a pallet. This wagon spent its working life underground, hauling ore through narrow shafts. That it survives with its original chassis and wheel assembly intact says everything about Decauville’s build quality.

The restoration

We stripped the wagon and finished it in satin black, keeping the riveted cast-iron structure and all original metalwork. The solid oak top in Castle Brown Monocoat sits flush across the full width of the chassis, made to complement the iron rather than compete with it.

In your interior

This is not furniture made to look industrial; it is industrial, repurposed as furniture.
