The Story Behind Jieldé:
The Jieldé lamp was designed in 1951 by Jean-Louis Domecq, who was frustrated by the constant need to repair the articulated lamps in his workshop. Determined to create a more durable and versatile solution, Domecq crafted a robust, multifunctional lamp that revolutionized lighting design. His breakthrough innovation was eliminating the exposed electrical cord by integrating it within the lamp’s articulated arms, allowing for 360-degree rotation without tangling.
Additionally, Domecq designed the lamp for easy assembly, with four core components that could be mass-produced and assembled without specialized skills. Its design also made the lamp resistant to vibration and water damage, perfect for industrial use.
