The story
Philips made the HDK series in the Netherlands in the 1950s to light factories and workshops. The cast-aluminium top once housed a heavy transformer; the shade directs the light straight down.
The restoration
The top was sandblasted and the aluminium shade lightly polished. The heavy original transformers were removed, which makes the lamp much lighter and easier to install, and it was rewired to an E27 fitting.

Hung in a row above a long dining table, kitchen island, bar or shop counter, they give an even, industrial rhythm. Every lamp has its own signs of age, so there may be small differences between the pieces you receive.
