The story

Strand Electric was the leading name in British stage lighting for decades, supplying theatres, television studios and concert halls in the UK and beyond. The Patt 23, nicknamed “Pig Nose” or “Pipo” for its distinctive front, became one of the most recognisable stage spotlights of the 1960s. Toverli, a theatre lighting maker from Amsterdam, built motors that turned a wheel of coloured gels in front of the beam. This motor was fitted to this exact lamp during its working life.

The restoration

We rewired the spotlight and mounted it on a black base. The Toverli motor stays where it was installed in the theatre, as a piece of stage history rather than a working part.

In your interior

On a desk, sideboard or bar, it is a conversation piece and a working lamp in one. For collectors of theatre history, the Toverli motor makes it one of a kind.
