In 1875, Paul Decauville built a railway empire.
His narrow-gauge iron wagons moved coal, ore and earth through mines and quarries across France and beyond. They were not built for beauty, they were built to last. This is one of those wagons.
A Century of Industrial History
This Decauville mine wagon dates to the 1920s, the height of the company's industrial output. At the time, Decauville was synonymous with heavy-duty precision engineering, their portable rail systems were used not only in mining operations across France, but were exported worldwide and deployed during both World Wars for military logistics.
The wagon spent its working life underground, hauling ore through narrow shafts. Its riveted cast-iron body, steel axles and solid iron wheels were designed for punishment, not aesthetics. The fact that it survives in this condition: structurally intact, with its original chassis and wheel assembly is a testament to the material quality that defined Decauville manufacturing.
The Restoration
The wagon has been stripped and finished in satin black, preserving the riveted cast-iron structure and all original metalwork. The oak tabletop has been crafted to complement, not compete: solid oak in a rich Castle Brown Monocoat finish, sitting flush across the full width of the chassis.
The result is a piece that reads immediately as what it is: a century-old industrial object given a second purpose rather than a reproduction built to look the part.
What You Are Buying
This is not furniture designed to look industrial. It is industrial, repurposed as furniture. The difference is visible in every detail: the rivet patterns, the wheel flanges worn by decades of use on iron rails, the chassis geometry engineered for function rather than form.
There is no other example of this piece. When it sells, it is gone.
