The story
This lamp began life as a PAR fixture: a type of stage lighting built around a sealed-beam PAR lamp, short for Parabolic Aluminised Reflector, where the bulb, reflector, and lens all sit combined in one sealed unit instead of as separate parts. The format was developed in the United States and reached British and European stages from the late 1960s, valued for a strong, punchy beam that could cut through saturated stage colours and shrug off heavy nightly use. By the early 1970s, PAR fixtures were standard equipment in touring concert and rock lighting as well as theatre, prized for being lightweight, close to indestructible, and simple to focus and colour with gels.
This Fargo Multipar carried a 575 watt lamp in its working life, a solid mid-range output for real stage use, and the compact housing makes it just as much at home on a desk or shelf today as a table lamp, or fixed to a wall as a reading or accent light. The spotlight head still tilts and rotates freely, so you can aim the beam exactly where you want it rather than leaving it fixed in one direction.
It has been fully rewired for safe home use, fitted with an E27 fitting, roughly 2 metres of cord, an inline switch, and an EU plug, so it accepts any standard LED or incandescent bulb. The one shown in the photographs is included.
Suited to home offices, studios, bedside tables, hallways, or anywhere a genuine piece of stage lighting history would make a smaller, more characterful lamp than anything built to imitate it.
